Looking Ahead For the Oklahoma Men and Women...
The University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team, ranked fourth in the nation, will head to Santa Barbara, Calif., this Saturday to compete in tri-meet action with Cal. State-Santa Barbara and top-ranked Michigan. Competition is set for 7 p.m. PST. The OU women's squad, 10-1 on the season, will meet Southern Utah Monday, Mar. 6, in Cedar City, Utah. Competition begins at 7 p.m.

Scouting No. 1 Michigan...
Michigan, ranked first in the nation for the sixth consecutive week, enters the meet posting a 13-2 record on the season. The UM men's team topped sixth-ranked Illinois, 230.350-227.200, last Saturday. Scott Vetere led the Wolverines with two first-place finishes in addition to the all-around title (56.850). He claimed the top spot on the still rings (9.900) and the vault (9.750), with his score on the still rings tying a career high. Oklahoma and Michigan have not met since March 1, 1997, at the Gold's Challenge. OU placed second in the meet with a 229.48 and Michigan placed fifth, posting a 219.15. The Wolverines are the defending national champions and are ranked first in the nation on the floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings and parallel bars.

Looking at Cal State-Santa Barbara...
Host Cal State-Santa Barbara's season record fell to 0-8 last Thursday, when the team fell to UCLA in the Peter Vidmar Invitational. UCSB's Cody Casey has posted five event highs this season while also setting two school records on the floor exercise (9.90) and on the vault with a 9.750. Casey is the nation's top-ranked gymnast on the floor exercise, averaging a 9.85. Oklahoma last met Cal State-Santa Barbara at the NCAA West Regional last season, when the UCSB finished seventh behind the Sooners' fourth-place finish, 226.100-213.050.

The Southern Utah Scoop...
After defeating Southern Utah, 193.325-191.425 last season in Norman, Okla., the Sooner women's gymnastics team, ranked 10th nationally, enters this matchup looking to move the OU/SUU series record to 4-0.

Oklahoma's Amber McCracken won the all-around title with a 39.200 in Southern Utah's last meeting with the Sooners. McCracken also posted second or third-place finishes in all events. Kym Franklin was the only gymnast of SUU to place in an event's top three. Franklin finished third in the floor exercise, tying McCracken with a score 9.850.

In quad-meet action last Sunday, the Thunderbirds placed third at the Master's Classic in Lincoln, Neb. with a score 193.075. SUU's Caycee Overstreet led the team to a seventh-place finish in the all-around, while Suzi Clark also finished ninth for the Thunderbirds.

Last Week for the Sooners... Oklahoma men's gymnastics team defeated ninth-ranked Nebraska, 226.375-217.825 at the Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb., last Sunday. With the victory, OU sweeps the season series and has three-straight dual competition victories. OU improved to 7-2 on the season.

The Sooners claimed individual championships in four events. On the floor exercise, freshman Daniel Furney and junior Brendan O'Neil tied for the top spot with a 9.65. Furney also shared the title on the pommel horse, tying Nebraska's Derek Leiter with a 9.70. OU also earned championships when sophomores David Johnston won the still rings (9.75) and Everette Bierker claimed first on the parallel bars (9.625). Women's Gymnastics

The Sooner women defeated the Missouri Tigers this past Saturday, 195.000-193.900, at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo. The Sooners claimed the top finishes in all events as their season record moved to 10-1 and 2-1 in Big 12 action.

OU's Amber McCracken, reigning Big 12 Gymnast of the Week, garnered her third all-around title on the year by a score 39.350, while teammates Leticia Ishii (39.100) and Ginger Russell (38.950) followed for second and third-place all-around honors. McCracken also took first place in three of four events by scoring a 9.850 on both the uneven parallel bars and vault and scored a 9.925 on the floor exercise.
