Women's Basketball Receives Academic Mark

NORMAN, Okla. - For the second time in four years, the University of Oklahoma women's basketball team ended the school year with one of the top 25 team grade point averages among all NCAA Division I schools.

The Sooners finished the 2000-01 school year with a 3.215, good for 24th in the country. Three OU players earned 4.0 GPA semesters last season. Desiree Taylor, one of last year's seniors and a chemical engineering major, earned a 4.0 during the spring 2001 semester. Senior Stacey Dales, a communication major, and sophomore Stephanie Luce, chemistry major, both earned 4.0's in during the fall 2000 semester. Dales was named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-American second team and earned Kodak All-American first-team honors on the court.

Oklahoma also placed five players on the Academic All-Big 12 team. The following Sooners were selected: Dales, Taylor, junior Caton Hill, senior Shannon Selmon and senior Jennifer Cunningham.
