Huet and Ritchie Advance to Finals

TULSA, Okla. – OU women’s tennis’ Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie won in the doubles semifinal Sunday to advance to the 2011 USTA/ITA Central Region Championships doubles final on Monday.

The OU tandem defeated Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova of Wichita State in the semifinals, 8-2, and will face Meghan Blevins and Mary Jermiah of Oklahoma State for a Bedlam matchup in the doubles championship match. 

The winner of Sunday’s double final will advance to the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 3-6 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

OU has appeared in the Central Region doubles championship in three straight years.  OU won the previous two championships.

Huet also played in the singles quarterfinals Sunday, but lost to Patricia Veresova of Nebraska, 6-3, 6-2. 

Sophomore Mia Lancaster won two singles matches in tiebreaker sets in the singles consolation bracket Sunday to advance to the consolation championship on Monday.

Lancaster defeated OSU’s C.C. Sardinha in the consolation quarterfinals, 6-7(5), 6-2, 1-0(2), before beating Michelle Farley of Tulsa in the semifinal, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0(2). 

Lancaster will play Maria Sant’Anna of Tulsa in Monday’s consolation final.
