NORMAN, Okla. A trio of OU golfers advanced to the match play rounds of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash., Tuesday.
Anthony Kim, Brodie Flanders and Jesse Schutte were among the top 64 players to advance to the match play portion of the championship.
Kim, a three-time All-American, and 2006 Big 12 runner-up Flanders finished in a tie for 12th place with a two-round total of 1-under-par 143.
Kim shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday to follow his 1-under 71 in round one.
Flanders turned in the third-best score of the day with a 3-under 69 in round two.
Incoming freshman Jesse Schutte, a three-time Oregon 3A state champion, carded a second-round 77 to finish at 148 (+4) and in a tie for 43rd.
Phillip Bryan and Nick Sheedy both finished below the projected cut line of 6-over-par.
Bryan, a native of Mustang, Okla., recorded rounds of 76 and 78 to finish tied for 90th at 10-over.
Sheedy followed his first-round 83 with a solid 2-over 74 on Tuesday but couldn’t get past the cut line. He tied for 115th.
Tulsa’s Mitch Cohlmia earned co-medalist honors with Knoxville, Tenn., native Justin Metzger. The pair finished the stroke play event at 7-under-par.
Kim was the medalist at the 2005 Publinx at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio.
Match play will begin Wednesday morning with 18 holes at Gold Mountain’s 7,061-yard Olympic Course.
Kim will take on Brazil’s Lucas Lee beginning at 11:30 a.m. CST.
Flanders is paired with Jesse Massie of Louisville, Ky., in a match set for 12:06 p.m. CST.
Schutte will be matched up against defending APL champion Clay Ogden of West Point, Utah. Their match will tee off at 1:54 p.m. CST.

The winner of the Publinx championship earns, among other things, an exemption to the 2007 Masters.
