Two Sooners Ready For Event Finals On Saturday
April 16, 2004

Los Angeles, Calif., - The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team's season may be over with an 11th place finish at the 2004 NCAA Championships in the school's fourth ever appearance at nationals, but two individuals will compete tomorrow for individual national championships.  The Sooners concluded their amazing season with a 20-13 record that included their first-ever Big 12 Championship and a first place finish at the West Regional, also a program first.

Junior Erin LaBarr and freshman Tiffany Willin will participate in the 2004 individual event finals at UCLA on Saturday, April 17 at 9 p.m. (CST).  After posting the fourth highest score on the uneven bars (9.900) of the two sessions, LaBarr will try to give Oklahoma its first national champion since 1988 when Kelly Garrison also won on the uneven bars and on the balance beam and in the all-around.

Willin will also have a shot to make program history as she landed herself in the vault finals on Saturday after tying a career-high on Thursday with a 9.900.  Willin's tally was the third highest during the preliminaries and that score helped her collect First Team All-America honors along with LaBarr.  The last First Team All-American at OU was Cassie Frey in 1989 on the uneven bars.
