OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics squad kicked off its 2008-09 community service campaign on Saturday morning, volunteering at Race for the Cure in Bricktown.

The race was one of many planned community service efforts for the squad, as the reigning Big 12 Champs will also volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity and the OU Children's Hospital throughout the year.

"It has always been a primary mission of our squad to do anything we can to help out our community," said head coach K.J. Kindler.  "The team is always eager to help out and I truly believe that we get just as much out of it, if not more, by simply volunteering and surrounding ourselves with some amazing people."

The Sooners kick off the 2009 season at the University of Florida on Jan. 9.
