NORMAN, Okla. -- Sophomore Shelby Pendley drove in six runs and was 3-4 at the plate as No. 1 Oklahoma (42-3, 10-1) shut out Iowa State, 8-0, in five innings on Saturday afternoon at Marita Hynes Field.

Coming off a school-record 24-1 win on Friday night, Pendley and the Sooners jumped out early in clinching the series win over the Cyclones (19-28, 4-10).

Sophomore Lauren Chamberlain led off the game with a walk, one of a career-high three walks she drew in the game. Fellow sophomore Georgia Casey followed Chamberlain with a double to left center, putting two on for Pendley.

On a 2-2 pitch, Pendley went the opposite way to clear the fences in left field and push OU ahead 3-0. It was Pendley's 18th home run of the season, tying her for seventh on the Sooners' single season list.  It also marked the fourth straight game in which she has left the yard, tying a school record accomplished three times by Chamberlain.

Over her last 11 games, Pendley is 18-33 (.545) with 10 home runs, 30 RBI, 16 runs scored, three doubles, seven walks and two stolen bases. She has a .634 on-base percentage in that time with a 1.545 slugging percentage.

"It is really enjoyable to see a player getting hot and just seeing the ball so well," OU head coach Patty Gasso said of Pendley. "She has done a lot of damage with two strikes in her count, and that's when you really know something is on. Brianna Turang is someone who is really hot as well.

"Shelby puts in the work. Am I out here shocked? Absolutely not. She puts in the work before and after practice. Everything that she is getting is well deserved. She really pushes herself to have these types of days. She's made our team better without question."

In the second inning, senior Brianna Turang collected the first of her three hits with a single up the middle. A steal of second base gave Turang No. 63 in her career, gaining sole possession of fifth place on OU's list. Chamberlain walked and, two batters later, Pendley laced a double into the gap in right center to clear the bases and put the Sooners on top 5-0.

Like Pendley, Turang has also enjoyed a hot streak as of late. In her last six games, Turang is 11-17 (.647) with five runs batted in and five runs scored.

Iowa State threatened to cut into the lead in the third inning when Jordan Spendlove doubled with one out and tried to score on Sarah Hawryluk's single up the middle. However, junior center fielder Destinee Martinez fielded the ball and fired a throw to the plate where senior catcher Jessica Shults applied the tag to keep senior Michelle Gascoigne's shutout intact.

Gascoigne ended with her eighth shutout of the season. She struck out four and walked none while giving up five hits. Her season earned run average lowered to 0.93 and her record improved to 16-2.

After two scoreless innings, Oklahoma ended the game in the fifth with three runs and recorded its 17th run-rule win of the year.

Sophomore Callie Parsons led off the frame with a single to right center and junior Destinee Martinez reached on a bunt single. After a strikeout, Turang loaded the bases with another infield single. A wild pitch brought home Parsons, and Chamberlain walked to refill the bases.

Casey plated OU's seventh run when she walked on five pitches and Pendley closed things out with a single off the wall in left center.

Oklahoma goes for the series sweep on Sunday. First pitch is set for noon on Fox College Sports Atlantic.
