NORMAN, Okla. – The 26th-ranked University of Oklahoma men’s tennis team (7-1) gained its second over a Big Ten opponent Sunday, after they defeated No. 48 Indiana, 6-1, inside the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion.

“The guys showed good effort and they took care of business fairly quickly,” said OU head coach John Roddick

OU began the match sweeping the Hoosiers in doubles. Freshman Lawrence Formentera and senior Blake Boswell began the onslaught as they defeated Indiana’s Santiago Gruter and Isade Juneau, 8-4.

At the No. 1 position, senior Andrei Daescu teamed with freshman Costin Paval to take down IU’s Stephen Vogl and Jeremy Langer, 8-6.

Juniors Ionut Beleleu and David Pultr rounded out the doubles sweep by beating Indiana’s Lachlan Ferguson and Max Armengaud, 8-7.

In singles action, OU claimed the first-four points after winning matches at the No. 3, 1, 6 and 5 positions, respectively.

Beleleu was the first Sooner to claim a victory. He defeated IU’s Josh MacTaggart in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Oklahoma’s Daescu was next to finish, at the No. 1 position, as he won handily, 6-3, 6-1, over the Hoosiers Gruter.

OU sophomore George Chanturia clinched the match at the No. 6 position. He dropped IU’s Will Kendal in duplicate sets, 6-2.

At the No. 5 position, the Sooners Formentera brought the score to 5-0 after he beat Indiana’s Will Kendall, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1.

Lachlan Ferguson gained Indiana’s lone point after beating OU’s Pultr in three sets.

Paval rounded out the scoring for OU after he notched a victory at the No. 2 spot over IU’s Langer, 6-4, 7-6, 1-0.

“Our doubles is better and I’m excited about Andrei being back to playing solid tennis,” Roddick said. “Lawrence probably played his best set all year today.”
