ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team continued its impressive opening fall weekend by winning all three singles matches and adding two doubles victories at the Navy Invitational on Saturday.
Sergey Avdeyev, Federico Chavarria and Ryan Thomas all won their singles matches and did not drop single set in the process. For the second consecutive day, the Sooners also went undefeated in doubles action picking up two victories.
"I thought we played pretty well today and I thought we had a great showing in doubles action," head coach Paul Lockwood said.
Avdeyev, playing No.1 singles, defeated Patrick Adanis of St. Joseph's in two sets, winning 6-2, 6-3. Chavarria, playing No. 3, defeated Phil Bayliss of St. Joseph's by a score of 6-1, 7-6. Thomas, at No. 5, disposed of Phil Garabedian of St. Joseph's in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
"I thought we continued to improve in singles play from yesterday which was very pleasing to see," Lockwood said
In doubles action, the tandem of Chavarria and Thomas made quick work of the St. Joseph's duo of Bayliss and Will Pearson by winning 8-1 in No. 1 doubles. Avdeyev teamed up with Jorge Villanueva of Arkansas in No. 3 doubles to shutout the St. Joseph's twosome of Matt Prusack and Brian Costello, 8-0.
OU continues play Sunday morning when they battle Maryland and Princeton at 8 a.m. Central.
"Maryland and Princeton will be a very stiff test for our team Sunday morning. Both of those teams have some great players and we hope to finish the tournament on a good note," Lockwood continued.
The Sooners continue their fall schedule on the road next week when they travel to Waco, Texas, for the Baylor HEB Intercollegiate, Sept. 21-23.

-Sergey Avdeyev improved his career singles record at the Navy Invitational to 4-0 with his victory over Adanis and moved to 4-1 in doubles with the victory.
-Federico Chavarria moved to 6-2 all-time in singles matches and 8-0 in doubles matches at the Navy Invitational with his victories on Saturday.
-Ryan Thomas is now 3-2 in singles and 5-0 in doubles play in Annapolis.
-The Sooners have not lost a singles match or doubles match in the fall season in Annapolis.
-None of the matches will count towards a team's win/loss record. The invitational is a round-robin tournament between the individuals and not the teams.
