Hollis Price Named To Preseason Naismith List

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma senior guard Hollis Price was named one of the top 30 preseason candidates for the 2002-03 Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced this week.

A 6-1, 170-pounder, Price was named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year by league coaches yesterday. He has also has been tabbed a Playboy Preseason All-American and named as one of 50 preseason candidates for the John R. Wooden All-America team.

Price led the Sooners to a 31-5 record, Big 12 Tournament title and Final Four appearance last year by averaging 16.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He also shot .382 from three-point range and .838 from the free throw line. Price was a first-team All-Big 12 selection last season before earning Big 12 Tournament and NCAA West Regional MVP honors. The New Orleans native was also a third-team All-American by The Sporting News.

The Naismith Awards program, now in its 35th year, honors the outstanding college basketball players in the United States. The awards program was founded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, an organization dedicated to recognizing the achievements of student-athletes in basketball. The candidates were selected by a vote of the Board of Selectors, comprised of leading basketball coaches, journalists and analysts.
