Goodwin Leads OU After 36 holes

NORMAN, Okla.-- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team is in a tie for 13th place with Iowa State after two rounds of play in the 16-team "Mo" Morial Invitational in College Station, Texas. The Sooners shot a second-round 326 (+36) on the par-72, 6,225-yard Traditions Golf Club Course and are 28 strokes behind leader Arizona State.

Leading OU in the second round, Megan Goodwin fired a 77 (+5).  The senior improved seven strokes from Friday's opening 18 holes and moved up the leaderboard to tie for 44th place. Junior Kelly Jacques followed close behind after shooting a second-round 79 (+7) and stands in a 50th-place tie.

"We are really pleased with Megan and Kelly's performance today," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "It was a rough day on a really tough course but they kept with it."

Senior Jaclyn Stelzer and Heather Wright each shot 12-over par (+84). Stelzer is in a 66th-place tie. Wright, a junior, dropped out of the top 10 to a tie for 38th place. Freshman Chelsey Collins shot an 85 (+13) and is in a tie for 63rd place, while redshirt freshman Ryanne Elmer carded an 87 (+15) in the second round and stands in 79th place. Elmer is competing as an individual.

"We're very disappointed after today's round." Ludvigson said. "Our goal is to put in a good round tomorrow and build confidence for our next tournament in Austin (Texas). We will bounce back and be ready to finish strong tomorrow."

Paola Moreno of USC has taken the lead after turning in a 2-under par in the second round and is even after 36 holes of play.

The Sooners return to the links for the final round of the 54-hole tournament at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
