COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The 11th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team advanced to Sunday’s NCAA Regional championship game with a 1-0 win over Fordham on Saturday afternoon.

The Sooners managed just five hits against Rams starter Jen Mineau but it was Lindsey Vandever’s 12th home run of the season that proved to be the difference. In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, the Sooners move to 45-10 overall and Fordham fell to 48-11.

Mineau retired nine straight Oklahoma batters before Vandever turned on the first pitch she saw with two outs in the top of the fourth inning. Vandever’s shot was the 33rd of her career, giving her sole possession of seventh on the OU career home runs list.

Keilani Ricketts went the distance, throwing her 26th complete game of the season and 13th shutout. Ricketts allowed five hits, the most since giving up five in the second game of a doubleheader against Texas Tech on April 15. Ricketts walked one and struck out nine to move her single season total to 313, the second most in a single season at OU.

Jessica Shults ended the game 2-for-3 with a double and single to extend her hitting streak to 10 games. Krystle Huey and Chana’e Jones added OU’s other hits. Huey stretched her hitting streak to a season-best four games. Haley Nix drew the only walk issued by Mineau.

Oklahoma’s opponent is to be determined during a 3 p.m. CT elimination game between Fordham and the winner of the regional’s first elimination game between Syracuse and Maryland. The 11 a.m. CT game will be joined in progress on KREF 1400 AM following regular scheduled Sunday morning programming. Free audio is available at SoonerSports.com.
