NORMAN, Okla. - This Saturday Oklahoma will hold a retirement ceremony for the current Boomer and Sooner ponies that pull the Schooner prior to OU's football game with Oklahoma State. The current set of horses will continue to pull the Schooner through postseason play.

Boomer and Sooner IV Facts and Figures

• Boomer and Sooner IV will spend their retirement days on a ranch in Sapulpa where they currently reside under the care and training of Bill and Linda Warden.

• Boomer and Sooner V have already been selected and will take over Schooner duties at next Spring's Red/White game.

• Boomer and Sooner IV are a mix between a Shetland and Welsh pony. Boomer and Sooner V are Small Welsh Ponies, which means they are a little larger than past Boomer and Sooner pairs.

• All white horses are actually born black and get whiter as they get older; Boomer and Sooner V are currently about 85% white but should be all white by next year.

• The Doc and Buzz Bartlett Foundation has provided funding and upkeep for the ponies and Schooner since 1964 when the Sooner Schooner idea was born.
