Sooners 12th After 36 at Windy City

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team completed day one of Northwestern University’s 54-hole Windy City Collegiate Classic on Monday tied for 12th place.  One of 15 teams, the Sooners carded a two-round 605 (+29) at The Glen Club (6,539-yard, par-72) in Glenview, Ill.

OU will enter Tuesday’s final round tied with UNC-Greensboro.  The Sooners carded a first-round team score of 303 (+15) and a second-round 302 (+14) to stand only two strokes behind 11th-place TCU and three strokes behind 10th-place Illinois.

Pacing the Sooners is junior Ellen Mueller, who ended day one in 15th place.  Mueller fired a first-round 1-over 73, and shot an even-par 72 in the second round to finish the day at 145 (+1).  She recorded two birdies in the first round and three more in the second.  Four strokes behind Mueller is freshman Taylor Schmidt, who stands in 29th place after Monday’s action.  Schmidt shot a first-round 75 (+3) and second-round 74 (+2) to finish with a 149 (+5). 

In her first action of the season, sophomore Kelly Short stands tied for 54th after Monday’s two rounds.  Short recorded a 76 (+4) and 78 (+6) for a two-round total of 154 (+10).  Following three strokes back is Brooke Collins.  The sophomore shot a 79 (+7) and a 78 (+6) to tie for 67th with a 157 (+13).  Freshman Aly Seng rounds out the Sooners’ scoring for day one with a two-round total of 169 (+25).  Seng carded a first-round 81 (+9) and a second-round 88 (+16) and stands in 80th place.

The Sooners will tee off Tuesday on the 10th hole beginning at approximately 8:30 a.m. CT.  Third-round tee times are as follows:
