NORMAN, Okla.- OU’s Gabby Baker will begin play Tuesday morning in Los Angeles in the All-American Pre-Qualifying tournament, an invitation only tournament based upon their national ranking.
“Next to the NCAA tournament this is the toughest tournament in college tennis,” said OU head coach Mark Johnson. “Every match she plays will be against someone who is nationally ranked. I am just excited to get Gabby out there and get her season started.”
Baker was invited based upon her national rank but that is the least of her concerns right now.
“I don’t know what I am ranked,” said Baker. “I am just excited about the level of play this tournament will bring. I am interested to see how I play against the competition and hopefully I will win a few matches.”
Baker ended last season ranked 118th and led the team with a 17-11 overall singles record. She went 13-10 in No. 1 singles and 8-3 in the Big12.
