WACO, Texas - The University of Oklahoma women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Baylor Wednesday evening, 18-25, 25-21, 21-25, 28-26 and 13-15. The Sooners fell to 6-6 (2-2 Big 12), while the Bears improved to 11-2 (3-0 Big 12).

In a match that went back-and-forth the entire evening, the two squads combined for eight lead changes and 27 ties. The two teams also tallied a combined 185 digs – 90 of those coming for the Sooners.

Redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu led the way for OU once again with 14 kills. Junior Bridget Laplante and freshman Caitlin Higgins each tallied their second consecutive double-doubles. For Laplante, her 12 kills and 16 digs marked her fifth double-double this season. Higgins’ 12 kills and 14 digs were also her fifth.

Freshman Suzy Boulavsky surpassed her previous season high in the kills column with 13, the second-highest team total on the evening. Of players that saw action in all five sets, Boulavsky also led the team in hitting percentage. Freshman setter Brianne Barker continued her impressive season with a season-high 50 assists and 18 digs for her sixth double-double of the year and second straight.

Senior Lacy Barnes eclipsed her career-high with 26 digs on the evening. It marked the second time in the last three matches that Barnes has posted 20+ digs. Sophomore Chrissy Disarro tied her career high with four service aces on the evening. Disarro also led the team with six blocks.

Katie Sanders led Baylor with 21 kills and digs, while Anna Breyfogle added 19 kills. Taylor Barnes had 64 assists for the Bears.

OU returns home Saturday afternoon to host Texas Tech at 2 p.m. in McCasland Field House. Due to the home football game scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, volleyball fans have the opportunity to use a free shuttle from the Lloyd Noble Center bus stop to First Street (a short walk to the Field House). This free shuttle will start at 1:15 PM and make its last run at 2:15 PM. The shuttle should run approximately every 15 minutes.
