LOS ANGELES - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the 21st-ranked University of San Diego Toreros on Friday afternoon at the Holiday Inn L.A. City Center Trojan Invitational. The Sooners (1-4) were swept for the second time this season, falling 25-15, 25-12 and 25-22.  USD kept their record perfect, improving to 5-0 on the early season.

Junior Bridget Laplante and freshman Caitlin Higgins led the scoring attack for the Sooners with seven kills each. Redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu and sophomore Chrissy Disarro each added six. Laplante also added a team-high 11 digs, while freshman Brianne Barker contributed 10 on the evening. Barker was once again the team's leading passer with 24 assists. She also tallied a season-high four block assists.

In the opening set, the Toreros took control early, jumping up 13-6 and forcing the Sooners to call a timeout. Following the short break, San Diego continued to control the set and went on to win 25-15. Laplante totaled three kills in the period to lead OU, while Higgins carried the team with eight digs.

San Diego continued their dominance early in the second set. The Toreros opened with a 13-3 advantage before Ekwerekwu posted two kills and teamed with redshirt freshman Megan Bess on a block assist to give OU its sixth point of the match. The Sooners added an additional four points off kills from Ekwerekewu and Laplante, a block assist from Barker and redshirt freshman Sarah Machen and a Torero attack error. However, the effort fell short as USD went on to take the set, 25-12.

Following the intermission, the third set saw both teams trade the lead seven times before OU took a slim 10-8 advantage following a service ace from Barker. USD would not be denied as the Toreros regained the lead at 13-12 only to see the Sooners rally after key errors from the Toreros. After the set's 15th tie, San Diego went ahead 23-21 and held off Oklahoma to take the 25-22 win and the match, 3-0.

OU concludes action in the tournament tomorrow against Hofstra. The Sooners and Pride face off at 6 p.m. CT. Live stats from the event are available at www.usctrojans.com.
