Sooners Topped by No. 20/21 Iowa State
NORMAN — The Oklahoma women's basketball team fell 91-70 to No. 20/21 Iowa State on Wednesday morning inside Lloyd Noble Center.
The morning matchup was played in front of 8,000 area elementary school students for the annual Sooner Jr. Fan Field Trip Day.
Sophomore Ana Llanusa led the Sooners with 20 points, marking the sixth consecutive game she has paced OU in scoring. She finished 6-for-16 with a pair of 3-pointers and six made free throws, registering her seventh straight performance with double-digit points.
Llanusa has scored 20-plus points in the four straight games.
Shaina Pellington and Jessi Murcer also finished in double-figures, chipping in 14 points apiece. Pellington scored a dozen of her points in the second half.
Overall, the Cyclones (20-6, 10-4 Big 12) outshot the Sooners (6-19, 2-12 Big 12) by a .479-.429 clip, including a .333-.313 mark behind the arc. ISU sunk 11 treys to OU's five.
ISU's Bridget Carleton led all scorers with 28 points, while adding 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kristin Scott added 16 points, while Madison Wise poured in 13 points on hit four treys.
OU's Madi Williams registered a game-high 12 rebounds, but the Cyclones won the rebounding battle 41-37.
After the Sooners built a narrow 10-9 lead in the first quarter, the Cyclones closed the frame on a 13-5 run to earn a seven-point lead. The Sooners tied the game at 29-29 late in the second quarter, but Iowa State used an 8-0 run to close the first half.
The Sooners travel to West Virginia on Saturday to wrap up their season series with the Mountaineers. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. CT. and the game will be televised on AT&T Sports Net.
