CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team showcased its depth Saturday afternoon, defeating North Carolina and Ball State at Carmichael Arena. The Sooners took home first with a 197.000, while host UNC came in second with a 195.150 and Ball State finished third with a 193.600.

Senior Brenna Dowell took home the all-around title, notching a career-high 39.625. Dowell also took home the vault title with a 9.925. Freshman phenom Olivia Trautman won the floor title with a 9.975 and sophomore Anastasia Webb took home the beam title with a 9.95. On bars, Webb, sophomore Karrie Thomas and senior Nicole Lehrmann shared the event title with matching 9.9s. Webb also added a 39.500 in her first all-around performance of the season.

OU opened on bars with Thomas making her debut as a Sooner after transferring from Maryland at the end of the 2018 season. Thomas set a career-high with a 9.9 on her incredible routine. Dowell and senior Alex Marks each notched a 9.85 and sophomore Bre Showers led off with a 9.80 to give the Sooners a 49.400 and the lead after the first rotation.

The Sooners had an incredible second rotation, matching their season-opening mark on beam with a 49.575. Webb led the way with a season-high 9.95 in the anchor spot on a gorgeous routine and stuck dismount. In the all-around for just the second time in her career, Dowell put up a career-high on the apparatus with a 9.925 in the No. 3 spot, showcasing a perfectly executed full-twisting back handspring.

Sophomore beam specialist Carly Woodard added a season-high 9.925, absolutely sticking her aerial cartwheel to back full dismount. Junior Bre Showers notched a season high with a 9.9, and freshman Olivia Trautman added a 9.875 in the leadoff spot.

Floor was uncharacteristic for the Sooners as they tallied a 48.850 after counting a fall. Trautman was the shining moment of the rotation as she tied her career high with a 9.975. The freshman opened with a huge double layout and nailed her double tuck in her final pass to earn a 10.0 from one judge.

Dowell added a 9.925 to her all-around total, wowing the crowd and judges with her powerful tumbling. Opening with a tucked double front, the senior nailed her final pass, sticking the landing on her front layout front full. Webb notched a 9.875 in the leadoff spot and junior Jade Degouveia tallied a 9.850 in the No. 2 spot.

Finishing the meet on vault, Dowell came up clutch as she notched the exact score needed to secure yet another score of 197 or better for the Sooners. Dowell took home the event title with a 9.925 on her Yurchenko 1.5. Degouveia added a 9.875 and Lehrmann and Trautman each tallied a 9.8.

The Sooners will travel to Fort Worth, Texas for the Metroplex Challenge, Saturday, Jan. 26. OU will face Arkansas, Denver and Missouri in its first quad meet of the season. The meet will be held at the Fort Worth Convention Center and is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
