K-State Tops the Sooners in Manhattan
MANHATTAN, Kan. — Oklahoma women's basketball fell for the first time in Big 12 play as Kansas State defeated the Sooners, 86-56, inside Bramlage Coliseum on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Ana Llanusa led the Sooners (5-8, 1-1 Big 12) with a season-high 14 points and five rebounds off the bench. Freshman guard Taylor Robertson added 12 points and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.
OU was limited to a season-low .280 clip (14-of-50) from the field and finished 5-for-22 (.227) from deep, while K-State (10-4, 1-1 Big 12) finished with a .542 field goal percentage and was 11-of-23 (.478) from 3-point range.
Rachel Ranke led four Wildcats in double figures with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 5-of-11 from deep. Kayla Goth scored 16 points and added five assists, while Peyton Williams picked up 14 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Christianna Carr added 14 points and knocked down four 3-pointers.
The Wildcats used a strong start shooting from the field to build a 41-22 halftime lead. OU fell down early to open the game, but brought the Kansas State advantage down to 15-13 late in the first quarter. Goth hit the Wildcats' fourth 3-pointer of the opening frame to end OU's momentum heading into the second quarter.
K-State finished with a .630 clip from the field and knocked down 6-of-11 (.545) from beyond the arc in the first two quarters. OU's 22 points in the first half were the fewest scored by the Sooners in a half this season.
OU finished with a .767 (23-of-30) percentage at the free throw line, its second-best clip of the season. K-State won the rebounding battle, 34-31, and forced 24 OU turnovers. The Wildcats won the battle in the paint, 36-12, and scored 32 points off of OU miscues.
The Sooners head to Austin, Texas on Wednesday to face No. 13/12 Texas. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on the Longhorn Network.
