Sooners Top SMU On the Road, 77-61

DALLAS  Oklahoma women's basketball ended its non-conference slate with a 77-61 victory over SMU on Saturday inside Moody Coliseum.

Four players scored in double figures for the Sooners (4-7) as sophomore Shaina Pellington led OU with 21 points. Freshman Madi Williams picked up her fourth double-double of the year, recording 20 points and 10 rebounds. 

Freshman Taylor Robertson knocked down five 3-pointers and scored 15 points, while senior Ijeoma Odimgbe matched her career high with 11 points off the bench in 19 minutes. Tatum Veitenheimer recorded a career-high seven assists and five rebounds, to go along with seven points and three steals. 

The Sooners led for nearly the entire game, jumping out to a 39-24 lead over SMU (6-6) at halftime. OU posted a .592 field goal percentage during the first half as Pellington scored 11 points in the first two quarters. The sophomore picked up her third 20-point scoring game of the year, finishing 9-of-16 from the field to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. 

Williams scored 13 of her 20 points in the second half to help the Sooners maintain their double-digit lead as the Sooners held SMU to a .364 field goal percentage and limited the Mustangs to just two 3-pointers. Williams' four double-double are already the third most by an OU freshman in a single season in the Sherri Coale era.

Robertson buried back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the third quarter to put OU in front by 21 points. The McPherson, Kansas, native has made 51 treys in 11 games this season, which already ranks fifth on OU's freshman record list.

OU finished 7-of-14 (.500) from beyond the arc, while posting its second-best shooting percentage of the year at a .549 clip. The Mustangs won the rebounding battle, 36-34,  while the Sooners recorded 17 assists and nine steals in the win. 

Alicia Froling led SMU with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Kayla White finished in double figures with 11 points.

OU has won four straight meetings against SMU and leads the all-time series, 8-5. 

The Sooners open Big 12 play on Wednesday, Jan. 2 against Texas Tech inside Lloyd Noble Center. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Oklahoma and tickets are available here.
