Sooners Downed By Clemson, 74-62
BIMINI, Bahamas — Oklahoma women's basketball fell its final game at the Junkanoo Jam as Clemson defeated the Sooners, 74-62, in Bimini, Bahamas.
The Tigers (3-3) closed the first half on a 16-0 run and the Sooners (2-3) were unable to cut down the deficit in the second half.
Shaina Pellington led the Sooners with 11 points, while Jessi Murcer added 10 points in her first career start.
Pellington was 5-of-12 from the field with four assists against the Tigers. Murcer, who has scored in double figures in four consecutive games, was 4-of-6 from the field in 23 minutes.
Madi Williams recorded nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Mandy Simpson chipped in eight points and seven rebounds, while Taylor Robertson added eight points. Ijeoma Odimgbe finished with seven points and seven rebounds as the senior made her first career start.
Clemson outscored the Sooners by a 26-10 margin the second quarter to build a 16-point lead at the intermission. OU rallied in the third quarter to trim the deficit down to 63-57 heading into the final frame, but it could not get closer.
The Tigers were led in scoring by Danielle Edwards, who finished with 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Edwards also added in a game-high four steals. Clemson's Kobi Thornton added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
OU outshot Clemson, .426-.424, from the field, but the Sooners were limited to 6-of-25 (.240) shooting from beyond and a .450 clip (10-of-22) from the free throw line. The Sooners recorded 17 assists as Tatum Veitenheimer led all players with six assists. Clemson took advantage of 27 OU turnovers, scoring 25 points off Sooner miscues.
The Sooners continue their road swing at New Mexico on Wednesday at 8 p.m. CT. OU won last year's matchup, 105-63, over the Lobos in Norman.
