Sooners Host Old Dominion In Pink Match

NORMAN – The Oklahoma women’s tennis team continues its five-match homestand Saturday when the Sooners take on Old Dominion at noon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

The contest will OU’s second annual pink match for breast cancer awareness. The team will wear pink uniforms, while honoring breast cancer patients and survivors prior to the match.  



The Sooners enter the matchup at 1-5 on the season. In its last match, Oklahoma suffered a 4-3 loss at the hands of Arkansas. With the match tied at 3-3, OU's Christie Brigante was defeated by Arkanasas' Giulia Pairone 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0, allowing the Razorbacks to escape with the victory. 

Newcomers Jasmine Asghar, Skylar Miller and Camila Romero all picked up singles wins, with Asghar and Romero recording their first duals victories as Sooners. 

In singles action, Lily Miyazaki leads the Sooners from the No. 1 line with a 1-2 record. The senior is the Sooners’ representative in the ITA rankings, tabbed No. 18 in the latest release.

Miller and Malene Stripp have compiled a 2-1 record in doubles action.


Scouting Old Dominion

The Monarchs come into Saturday’s contest with an overall record of 8-1, riding a five-match winning streak.


In its last weekend of competition, Old Dominion notched wins over Charlotte (4-0) and Appalachian State (6-1), in a doubleheader at home in Norfolk, Va.


The Monarchs have played just two matches on the road, winning both – a 5-2 victory over Virginia and a 4-0 rout of VCU.


Adriana Rajkovic leads Old Dominion in singles wins with a perfect record of 8-0. Louie McLelland, Yulia Starodubtseva and Nataliia Vlasova are each 7-1 on the season.

In doubles play, Vlasova and Victoria Olivarez have compiled a 7-2 record while Rajkovic and Natalya Malenko are 5-1.

The Last Time They Met

The teams clashed on March 14, 2017, when the then-No. 39 Sooners downed Old Dominion, 4-0, in Norfolk, Va. The contest was the first-ever meeting between the teams.



Saturday’s match will be a pink match for breast cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink, and free pink t-shirts will be available for all in attendance.
