Pellington Repeats as Big 12 Freshman of the Week

NORMAN – Oklahoma guard Shaina Pellington claimed Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors for the second straight week, the league office announced Monday.

Pellington, who has won the award three times this season, averaged 18.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists during OU's two games a week ago. Pellington continues to lead all Big 12 freshmen in scoring during the regular season (13.2) and in conference play (14.9).

The Pickering, Ontario, native ranks second nationally among Division I freshmen with a .517 field goal percentage. Over the last four contests, Pellington is averaging 19.5 points per game, shooting .582 from the field and has recorded 3.5 assists a game.

Pellington joins Sharane Campbell (2011-12), Aaryn Ellenberg (2010-11), Whitney Hand (2008-09), Danielle Robinson (2007-08), Courtney Paris (2005-06) and LaNesia Caufield (1998-99) as the only players in school history to be awarded Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors at least three times.

The Sooners' freshman class has won the Big 12 Freshman of the Week award five times this season. Ana Llanusa won the award on Dec. 18, while Mandy Simpson claimed the honor on Nov. 13.

OU returns to action on Wednesday against Kansas State at 10:30 a.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center for Sooner Jr. Fan Field Trip Day. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
