NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team won its first match of the day, a 3-0 sweep of Northwestern State, before a 3-1 loss to Colorado closed out the NIKE Invitational. The Sooners finished the weekend 1-2 in their home tournament; playing the finale in front of 1,007 at McCasland Field House.

Oklahoma’s straight-sets victory to start the afternoon over the Lady Demons came by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-21. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas), who earned All-Tournament honors, led the offense with 10 kills on a .429 hitting percentage, while adding nine digs and three blocks.

Junior setts Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.) and Morgan Miller (Magnolia, Texas) each dished out 16 assists in the win. Miller added eight kills and three service aces. Defensively, freshman libero Kira Morikawa (Honolulu) led all players with 13 digs.

NSU was led in kills by outside hitter Reagan Rogers, who hit .344 with 14 kills. Outside hitter Alexis Warren chipped in with 11 kills and a team-high 12 digs.

The win marked the first of the season for OU and evened the all-time series against the Lady Demons at 1-1. The only prior match-up was a 2-0 loss in 1975; the second season of Sooner volleyball.

In the nightcap, the Sooners fell behind early in the first against the Buffaloes; facing a quick 6-0 deficit. OU did not rebound in the first, falling 25-11, but bounced back to even the match with a 25-23 win in the second.

Oklahoma hit .412 as a team in the second set as Enneking tallied seven kills on 10 attempts without an error in the frame. She finished the night leading all players with 17 kills and hit .375.

Colorado hit .391 as a team for the match. Outside hitter Alexa Smith notched a team-high 15 kills on a .323 attack rate. Frankie Shebby registed a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs.

Buffs setter Brynna Deluzio collected 45 assists in the win. For OU, Alford picked up a team-high 22 digs. Miller nearly repeated her triple-double performance from Friday night with a 16-assist, nine-kill, eight-dig showing.

Redshirt-junior Rachel Manriquez (Edmond, Okla.) took over as the OU libero for the third set and finished with 15 digs. CU’s Gabby Carta-Samuels led all players with 19.

The Sooners are on the road next weekend for the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Ohio University. Oklahoma opens the competition on Friday, September 1 against High Point.
