NORMAN — A Big 12 Conference-high five University of Oklahoma Athletics programs were publicly recognized by the NCAA on Wednesday for posting multiyear Academic Progress Rates in the top 10 percent of all squads within their respective sports. All five OU programs posted perfect 1,000 APR scores.
OU women's basketball, women's golf, women's gymnastics, rowing and women's tennis were five of the 19 athletics programs from the Big 12's 10 member schools recognized for their most recent four-year APR scores (2012-13 through 2015-16 academic years). No other Big 12 school had more than three teams recognized by the NCAA on Wednesday.
This is the fourth consecutive year that OU's women's golf and women's gymnastics programs posted a perfect APR score, and the third straight year that women's tennis has accomplished the feat.
Wednesday's announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
