NORMAN The No. 39. Oklahoma women’s tennis team suffered its second conference loss when it fell to No. 30 Texas, 4-1, Sunday.

With the loss, Oklahoma drops to 10-4, 0-2 on the season, while Texas improves to 7-5 and 1-1 in the Big 12.

“I think this rivalry and the tradition of this rivalry is something truly special and it creates a cool opportunity for all of these girls to have a chance to compete at the highest level,” said head coach Audra Cohen. “I think we came out today and tried our best to compete but we just came up a little short on too many courts.”

The Sooners gave up the doubles point to begin the match.  On court two, Lily Miyazaki and Simran Sethi were defeated by Texas' Neda Koprcina and Anna Turati, 6-2. No. 3 Chrisite Brigante and Mimi Fotopoulos fell to Bianca Turati and Katie Poluta, 6-2, to put the Longhorns on the board first.

When play was halted, Julie Byrne and Malene Stripp trailed No. 52 Petra Granic and Dani Wagland, 5-4, in the top flight.

In singles play, Stripp was defeated by No. 62 Petra Granic, 6-0, 6-2, on court three, while Fotopoulos fell to No. 87 Koprcina, 6-3, 6-0, on court two.

Freshman Ann Selim came out with the Sooners’ lone victory, defeating Poluta 6-4, 6-1, from the No. 5 line.  In the first set, Selim took an early lead before Poulta came back within a game. Selim closed the set out on a strong note before giving up just one game in set two.

On court six, Brigante was defeated by UT's Wagland, 3-6, 6-1, 1-6. After dropping the first, Brigante took the second frame to force a third set, but Wagland rallied to claim the match.

When play was halted, No. 21 Miyazaki trailed No. 26 Bianca Turati, 5-2, in the the second frame on court one after falling in the first, 7-5. In the No. 4 slot, Byrne was locked in a second-set battle with Anna Turati, tied at 3-3. The freshman dropped the first set to the Longhorns' Turati, 7-5.

The Sooners have a 10-day break before they travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on TCU on March 31 at 5:30 p.m. CT.
