NORMAN – After being named the NCAA Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, University of Oklahoma men’s gymnastics sophomore and reigning NCAA all-around champion Yul Moldauer picked up the same honor from the MPSF on Wednesday.

Moldauer posted an impressive 88.350 in the Sooners’ home-opening win over Michigan on Saturday. That mark is the second highest in the country so far this year, trailing only teammate Allan Bower’s 88.750 from the Rocky Mountain Open.

Competing in the all-around for the first time in 2017, Moldauer put on quite a show for the home crowd. The Arvada, Colo., native won the event titles on floor (14.850), rings (15.100) and parallel bars (15.150). In a year in which scores of 15.000 or better are scarce due to adjustments to the code of points, Moldauer has now recorded five such scores.

Moldauer rounded out his meet with a second-place finish on pommel horse (14.050), fourth place on vault (14.650) and third place on high bar (14.550).

With his effort on Saturday, Moldauer helped push Oklahoma to its second team total of better than 430.000 on the year. No other team has bested the 425.000-mark this season. Currently, Moldauer ranks fourth nationally on floor, sixth on pommel horse, third on rings, 10th on vault, first on parallel bars, fourth on high bar and second in the all-around.

Moldauer also earned NCAA Gymnast of the Week honors in the Sooners’ season opener a year ago and once again after the NCAA Championships where he won the national championship in the all-around, becoming just the second freshman in history to do so (Sam Mikulak, Michigan).

The Sooners are back in action Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. CT as they hit the road to face Iowa and Minnesota in Iowa City, Iowa. Oklahoma returns home on Saturday, Feb. 25 as they host Air Force at the McCasland Field House in a 6:50 p.m. CT meet.
