BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Dan Schubert started his collegiate track and field career in 2011 and, despite facing the challenges of season-ending injuries, continued to train in hopes of competing for the Sooners. His first significant competition came during the 2015 outdoor season. Then, in 2016, he was able to compete indoor and outdoor, eventually qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor prelims in the 10,000-meter run.
Only fitting then as he enters his final season of eligibility that he be the first Sooner to compete in 2016-17.
He ran in the Hoosier Open over the weekend and recorded a 14:57.20 in the 5,000-meter run fast section. His career best in the event is 14:13.74, a mark he posted in 2016 at the Big 12 Indoor Championship. He finished sixth in the Big 12 meet with that career best.
Schubert will exhaust his eligibility with the 2017 indoor season. He and his Sooner teammates will open the season with the Sooner Indoor on Jan. 14. The sixth-year senior will have a race under his belt as he pursues a fantastic finish to his career.
