"Our Star" to Recognize Cancer Survivors
Coach Kay Yow was passionate about uniting the nation of coaches, players and the women's basketball community to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses on the court. The Play 4Kay campaign was born in 2007 and continues to grow as it raises funds to support women's cancer research. To date, the fund has allocated more than $5 million towards this goal.
Throughout her time here, Sherri Coale and her staff have been innovators in terms of pushing the Play 4Kay efforts forward. Each year, the Play 4Kay game generates new excitement and celebrates the survivors that inspire us every day.
During the past three years, these survivors have been treated to a “pink carpet” welcome, a pre-game reception and a chance to be honored on the court prior to the game. This year, we want to take it to the next level. That's where we need you.
Play 4Kay “Our Star” Program
Each one of these survivors we see as our own star that shows us every day what courage and tenacity are all about. We want you to help give your "star" the "star treatment" at the game against Kansas State on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. CT at the Lloyd Noble Center.
This can include meeting your star on the pink carpet, making signs in their honor and sitting with them during the game.
The best way for your "star" to be recognized is by nominating them. After a star is nominated, we will send the group leader an email including information on how to make your star's night extra special.
For being nominated, the Star will automatically receive the following:
- T-shirt & light-up baton
- Two free tickets to the game
- A pre-game meal and reception
- Opportunity to be recognized pre-game
- Recognition on the video board
Five lucky Stars will also be picked to receive the “OU Star Treatment Package” that includes:
- Attend practice
- A limo ride to the game
- A makeover
- A gift bag
- Featured on SoonerSports.com
- Be in the starting lineup with the team
Deadline to nominate Our Star participants will be Feb. 1.
Planning on attending our Play4Kay game? Fans are asked to wear their favorite pink t-shirt, blouse or hat. This year, OU Athletics will use the funds previously used to purchase pink t-shirts to make a donation to the Stephenson Cancer Research Center.
