Sooners Pick Up Road Sweep of TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep at TCU on Wednesday evening. The Sooners improved to 5-15 overall and 2-5 in the Big 12, while the Horned Frogs dropped to 9-10 and 1-6.

The win marked the fourth sweep of the year for Oklahoma and its first true road win since sweeping Texas Tech in Lubbock on October 12, 2016. The Sooners won in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-21.

Oklahoma came out strong early, taking advantage of TCU errors, to lead 7-2 with a pair of 3-0 runs, which forced the Horned Frogs to use their first timeout of the night. The Sooners extended their lead to 14-7 to cause TCU to use its second timeout. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas) powered the OU attack with six kills on a .455 hitting percentage in the set.

Junior setter Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.) distributed the ball to four hitters that recorded three or more kills as OU hit a collective .394 in the first. For the match, she totaled 35 assists and added four digs.

In the second, it was a pair of 3-0 runs by the Sooners that forced TCU to call timeout with Oklahoma leading 12-9 and 17-12. OU finished the set by winning 11 of the final 15 points as the Sooners hit .429 and put down four service aces.

The Horned Frogs led early in the third before a 4-0 OU run trimmed their lead to 7-8. The Sooners took their first lead at 15-14. Oklahoma used its second 4-0 run of the set to lead 20-16 and pull away to clinch the match.

Three Sooners reached double figures in kills; all tied with 11, including Enneking, who hit .333 and notched her 10th double-double with 10 digs. Junior outside hitter Madison Drescher (Southlake, Texas) hit a team-best .346 with 11 kills and five digs.

Junior outside hitter Morgan Miller (Magnolia, Texas) hit .280 with 11 kills. Freshman middle blocker Paige Anderson (McKinney, Texas) was error-free with nine kills on 13 attacks for a .692 hitting percentage. As a team, OU hit a season-best .376, while TCU hit .267.

TCU’s Allye Beth Deaton led all players with 15 kills on a .400 attack rate. Abigai Buckingham added 10 kills and hit .391.

Redshirt-junior libero Rachel Manriquez (Edmond, Okla.) picked up a match-leading 14 digs and added five assists and two of the Sooners’ five service aces.

Oklahoma returns home to take on No. 3 Texas on Sunday, October 22 at 3 p.m. The match will serve as the Sooners’ annual Pledge for a Cure match and will air nationally on ESPN2.
