FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 36 Oklahoma women’s tennis team fell to No. 33 TCU, 4-1, Friday night.
The Sooners (10-5, 0-3 Big 12) gave up the doubles point to open the match to TCU (10-6, 2-2 Big 12). On court two, juniors Lily Miyazaki and Christie Brigante fell to the Horned Frogs' Seda Arantekin and Alexis Pereira, 6-2, in their debut as a pair. OU's duo of Julie Byrne and Malene Stripp fell to TCU's Donika Bashota and Caroline Wegner, 6-3, at the top of the lineup.
When play was halted, OU's freshman tandem of Ann Selim and Serena Nash trailed TCU’s Madison Tedford and Sofiko Kadzhaya, 5-2.
In singles play, Stripp fell to Kadzhaya, 6-3, 6-0, on court three. Nash was defeated by Donika Bashota, 6-4, 6-0, from the No. 4 line as TCU extended its lead to 3-0.
Selim put the Sooners on the scoreboard by defeating Wegner 6-4, 6-2, on court five. The freshman trailed 3-1 in first before fighting back to claim the frame. With the win, Selim moves to 10-2 on the season.
At No. 2, Byrne suffered just her second loss of the season when she was defeated by Aleksandra Zenovka, 7-5, 6-3, to clinch the match for the Horned Frogs.
When play was halted, Brigante trailed Marie Norris, 5-2, in the second set after she claiming the first, 6-3, on court six. In the No. 1 slot, No. 24 Miyazaki dropped the opening frame, but led No. 81 Seda Arantekin, 4-3, in the second set.
The Sooners are back in action Sunday, when they will face Texas Tech at noon CT in Lubbock, Texas.
