LAS VEGAS – No. 20/21 Oklahoma overcame a slow start Wednesday night, but rallied behind its defense to knock off Portland State, 74-60, in its final game at the Puerto Rico Classic.

The Sooners' pressure defense recorded 27 steals and forced 42 Portland State turnovers, a single-game record for an OU opponent. The 27 steals, by the Sooners rank as the second-most in a game in program history and are tied for the sixth-most in a single contest this year in Division I. In the second half, OU earned 16 steals also one shy of a single-game record.

Down 34-24 at halftime, the Sooners scored 50 second-half points for the second consecutive game to earn the win. OU's effort on the defensive end led to points offensively, as the Sooners scored 36 points off of PSU turnovers.

To start the third quarter, OU took advantage of six Viking turnovers on seven possession to cut the deficit down to 36-34 midway through the frame. The Sooners outscored Portland State, 21-5, in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

Maddie Manning led OU with 17 points and recored a career-high 10 steals to earn her first career double-double. The redshirt senior's 10 steals are the most by an OU player in a single game during the Sherri Coale era, just one shy of tying a school record.

Her 10 steals also rank as the most by a Division I player in a contest this year and are tied for the second-most in a single game by a player in the Big 12 Conference. 

T'ona Edwards was the only other Sooner to finish in double figures, matching her career high with 12 points, while adding in four rebounds and two assists. Chelsea Dungee scored nine points, while Nancy Mulkey chipped in eight points on 3-of-3 shooting in 13 minutes of action.

Peyton Little tied a career high with five steals, while Edwards picked up a season-best four swipes.

Portland State outshot OU, .500-.366, but the Vikings were limited to just 40 shot attempts. Despite shooting just .211 in the first half, the Sooners' offense posted a .545 clip from the floor in the games' final 20 minutes. 

OU opens Big 12 play on Thursday, Dec. 29 at Kansas. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT from Lawrence, Kansas.
