NORMAN – Three Sooners scored in double figures as No. 13/12 Oklahoma topped South Dakota State, 74-60, on Wednesday night at Lloyd Noble Center.
Oklahoma (4-0) forced South Dakota State (4-1) to a season-high 22 turnovers as the Sooners recorded a season-best 12 steals.
Peyton Little led the way with a team-high 17 points on 5-of-15 shooting including a team-best four 3-pointers. The redshirt senior has led OU in scoring in three of the first four games this season, and needs just 13 points to reach 1,000 for her collegiate career.
Vionise Pierre-Louis picked up her second double-double of the year with a 13-point, 14-rebound performance, while Maddie Manning filled the stat sheet with 15 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds.
“I’m really pleased with our team. I thought our focus and commitment to the moment was really good. We didn’t live in the possession that had just occurred or get ahead of ourselves looking into the next one,” OU head coach Sherri Coale said following the game. “We were really in the moment. I thought enduring the very difficult start in terms of the ball not going into the basket, we were guarding like crazy and I liked our shot selection. I liked our ball movement, but the ball just wasn’t going into the basket. We were unfazed by that and I think that’s a thing that people take for granted sometime."
Down 12-10 midway through the first quarter, the Sooners used a 12-0 run that spanned into the second quarter to take the lead for good. Manning sparked the offensive outburst for the Sooners with a 3-pointer to put OU in front.
OU outshot South Dakota State, .391-.387, from the field as the Sooners knocked down a season-high nine 3-pointers.
T’ona Edwards picked up her 200th career assist in the win as she paced the OU offense off the bench with a season-high six helpers in 26 minutes. On the defensive end, Pierre-Louis, Nancy Mulkey and Ijeoma Odimgbe each added two blocks.
Macy Miller scored a game-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting to lead South Dakota State, while Madison Guebert added 16 points and four assists for the Jackrabbits.
The four wins to begin the year marks OU’s first 4-0 start since the 2010-11 season when OU started with a 7-0 record.
The Sooners return to action Sunday as they host Colorado State at 2 p.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest. Tickets are available here.
