Spirit Camps

OU Camps & Clinics

Dear Coach, Advisor, and Parents,

Greetings from the OU Sooners! The University of Oklahoma Cheer and Pom squads are excited to invite you to the 66th year of cheerleading, mascot and dance camps here at University of Oklahoma where national championships are won almost every year in one or more sports. We hope that the information in our web site will be helpful as you go through the process of selecting a camp for your team/squad.

We are very proud of our facilities here at the University of Oklahoma.  We get to use our athletic and university facilities for all our camps.  The Sarkey's Fitness Center is popular among our camp participants because it is about a block from the residence hall and cafeteria. Our residence halls have been renovated in the past few years and give our camp participants some privacy with the suite-style rooms. The Couch Cafeteria offers an all-you-can-eat meal plan with hot entrees, a sandwich bar, salad and fruit bar, and dessert bar.

We have been in the camp business for 66 years and our camps are managed by adult university staff members. The University and OU Camp Staff do everything possible to ensure that you and your squad have the most positive, safe, and secure camp experience. We have University personnel and camp managers on site 24 hours a day to provide you with any and all help that you might need. Campus police are available at all times and routinely stop by our camp activities.

How to choose a camp for your squad/team?
All of the OU cheer camps are open to any squad, regardless of the type of squad you have. We do have some camp dates that have traditionally drawn specific squad types. For instance, most small schools and small squads (8 or less members) attend the June 17-19 session. Most junior highs and middle schools attend the May 31-June 2 session. The June 3-6 Stunt camp is for competitive squads. The NCA INNOVATIVE Speed camp is strictly a stunt camp (no school cheer material or mascot material is offered at this session).

Camp Information

The University of Oklahoma is located in Norman, Okla. The campus is reached by traveling east of I-35 on Lindsey Street approximately two miles. The residence halls can be reached by turning south onto Asp Avenue and traveling to a stop sign. A campus map will be included in your camp confirmation packet.

OU has a campus supervision policy where 1 adult per 12 minors is required.  For example, if a squad has 16 members, then 2 adults would be required to stay overnight with the group. To help alleviate this cost, we would offer a reduced price for the 2nd person.  If the 2nd person is an assistant coach, they would pay the regular coach's fee.  If the second person is a bus driver, chaperon, or manager/trainer, they would only pay for meals & housing. The bus driver, chaperone, or manager would be required to stay with the squad while the coaches are in their meetings.  Advisors/directors/coaches must be an adult at least 21 years of age. No one under the age of 21 will be allowed to act as an advisor/director and be responsible for the squad/team overnight.
You will be assigned a check-in time and residence hall in your camp confirmation packet. Camp confirmation will be emailed once I have received your final count after your tryouts. It will include a lot of information for you – medical waivers/releases for both students and advisors/directors/coaches, where to check-in and what time, directions to campus, invoice and payment information.
All residence halls are air-conditioned, double occupancy and suite style. Two campers will be assigned to a room and four campers will share a bath. Advisors/director/coaches will have a single room but may share a bath. Advisors/directors/coaches will not share a room or bath with minors, unless requested. A room assignment form will be included in the camp confirmation packet. Please email this list to pwhaley@ou.edu, or fax to (405) 325-4151, one week prior to camp. If you have specific requests on housing, please list them on the form. Damages to rooms will be charged to the persons occupying the rooms, but schools are ultimately responsible for student's actions.
All meals will be eaten in Couch Cafeteria which is adjacent to the residence halls. The cafeteria offers an all-you can-eat plan with a selection of entrees, a salad bar and sandwich bar. Your room key/access card packet is required to be admitted to the cafeteria for your meals.

Athletic Trainers
OU Spirit Camps will provide athletic trainers who will be available at all classes and sessions.  Please contact the trainer in the event of an injury or illness.
Camp T-Shirt
All participants and advisors/directors will receive a FREE official OU Camp t-shirt as a way of saying thanks for attending OU camps. You will be able to order t-shirts from the room assignment form.
Medical Information
The University of Oklahoma's Goddard Health Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and available to the participants of the spirit camps. Any major illnesses or injury will be referred to Norman Regional Hospital. Participants will be responsible for paying their own medical expenses at the time treatment is received. A limited-coverage accident and sickness insurance policy is provided for all paid campers.  This coverage acts as a secondary carrier to the camper's primary coverage.
Release Form
Minor's Release & Acknowledgment must be signed by a parent or legal guardian of the camp participant. Please bring this form and all forms to camp.
