KINGSTON, Jamaica - The final day of events at the Jamaican National Athletics Championships in Kingston turned out to be a great day for former Sooner Aldwyn Sappleton.

Sappleton, who competed for the Sooners from 2001-2005, dominated the men's 800-meter dash. Sappleton clocked an all-time personal best at the distance of 1:47.11 at National Stadium Sunday night to beat Andre Drummond by 1.75 seconds.

It was Sappleton's third national title after winning the event back-to-back in 2004 and 2005.

Michael Blackwood, who competed for OU in 1999 and 2000, finished second in the men's 400-meter dash. The 27-year-old Sanjay Ayre (45.07) defeated 30-year-old Blackwood (45.16) as both former Olympic medalists ran season bests. Florida State's Ricardo Chambers was third (45.34).

Saturday, Sooner alum Danny McFarlane (1995-97) won his fourth national title in the men's 400-meter hurdles.

The trio of OU graduates are likely to compete for Jamaica at the World Athletics Championships in Osaka, Japan, Aug. 25-Sept. 2, as the world's greatest athletes count down to the 2008 Olympic Games just one year away.
