NORMAN, Okla. - For the seventh time in the last eight years Oklahoma has finished among the top 25 in the U.S. Sports Academy's Director's Cup Standings.

Stanford finished in the top spot for the 13th consecutive year, while the Sooners came in at No. 25 out of 285 schools.

The only Big 12 schools to finish ahead of Oklahoma were Texas at No. 8 and Texas A&M at No. 18. Other Big 12 finishes included Nebraska at No. 27, Colorado 37, Baylor 38, Oklahoma State 41, Texas Tech 47, Missouri 53, Kansas 66, Iowa State 73 and Kansas State 111.

OU was fueled by conference championships in football, women's basketball, softball, men's outdoor track and field and men's gymnastics. The five league titles in one academic year represented the second-best total in school history, trailing only the 1955-56 school year.

Fifteen of Oklahoma's 20 sports teams participated in post-season competition as a team or as represented by individual competitors.

"Any time we rank among the top 25 in the Director's Cup we have to acknowledge that we are in elite company," said OU Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Programs and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione. "Our goals are to finish higher in the future as we continue to emphasize the broad-based nature of our program."

The U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is program's sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 women's and 10 men's.
